The Biggest Story

Last Updated on May 22, 2019

Hello all!  I have a sweet review to share with you!  I was asked to review The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung.  Yes, it’s a children’s Bible.  However, it’s not your average children’s Bible.

The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the GardenThe Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden

Amazon says:  Once upon a time there lived a man and a woman.  They were the happiest people on the planet.  True, they were the only people on the planet, but they were still terrifically happy.  Unfortunately, things didn’t stay happy and wonderful for long . . .

The Bible is full of exciting stories that fill children with awe and wonder.  But kids need to know how all those classic stories connect to Scripture’s overarching message about God’s glorious plan to redeem his rebellious people.

In The Biggest Story, Kevin DeYoung—a best-selling author and father of six—leads kids and parents alike on an exciting journey through the Bible, connecting the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ’s death on the cross to the new heaven and new earth.
With powerful illustrations by award-winning artist Don Clark, this imaginative retelling of the Bible’s core message—how the Snake Crusher brings us back to the garden—will draw children into the biblical story, teaching them that God’s promises are even bigger and better than we think.

The Biggest Story-2

I was impressed from the moment I received this children’s Bible.  I always look through any books before handing them over to the kids.  As I glanced through this one, I was immediately drawn in to the beautiful artwork found throughout.  I have read a lot of children’s books, Bibles, and Bible story books, many of them have great artwork, but this one truly is unique!  The book is premium quality hardback, contains 10 chapters and has over 100 beautiful color illustrations by artist Don Clark.  The chapters are easy to follow and understand.  Sometimes, when my boys got wiggly, we would pause and start again the next day.  The boys knew exactly where we left off.  Something not often found in children’s books, but found in this one, are notes to parents to help facilitate discussion on what you were learning about.

So what is The Biggest Story?  It’s the biggest story ever told – the story of redemption.  It begins with a perfect world, the first man and woman, and a deceitful snake.  It tells the story of what happened in the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve believed the snake’s lies, disobeyed, then were removed from paradise and the presence of God.  Before they left the Garden though, God gave them a promise that one day a snake crusher would come and make things right.  The rest of the book follows the familiar stories of God’s people who failed to follow Him over and again, while God who kept his promises all the same. However, now matter how many times God saved His people, the Israelites were never safe from themselves.  The book then goes on and tells about the promised snake crusher that is born and  Jesus’ perfect life, death and resurrection.  The promise given back in Genesis came true.  Jesus conquered sin and death at the cross.  The Biggest Story ends with the glorious promise of the snake crusher’s return to make all things right, where we will live with him forever in a place where there is no more sorrow, bad guys, or tears.  This book could be considered a children’s book for adults.  It is honestly a synopsis of the entire Bible.  The way that this story was spun by the author though kept me and my three boys captivated. While I have known this story my entire life, I believe this is a book you will not want to miss!

“The Snake Crusher is coming back again to wipe away all the bad guys and wipe away every tear.”
