Starlight Advent Christmas Cookies

I can’t imagine the holidays without cookies. Although we tend to eat cookies year-round, I don’t eat them near as often as I do during the Christmas season. For decades, cookies have been a popular dessert to serve around this time of the year. That’s because they’re so versatile and make for an easy recipe to boot. One of our favorite cookies we make every year is Christmas Crinkle Cookies

I love getting creative for the holidays (like this Santa Claus Vegetable Tray) which is why I decided to try my hand at a special cookie recipe. I saw a couple of posts on Starlight Advent Christmas cookies here and here and was so intrigued! However, they were not allergy-friendly cookies nor soy-free. So that’s when I decided to try my hand with these Starlight Advent Christmas Cookies. They’re a pretty easy cookie to toss together while still being a fairly unique recipe. Plus, I’ve included directions on how to give them as a gift along with printable tags below!

Common Questions About Starlight Advent Christmas Cookies

When Should You Start Baking Christmas Cookies?

I believe this is up to each individual person since some of us eat them all year round. However, if you’re looking for a more formal example based on society’s expectations, December 1st is a great time to start baking Christmas cookies. These particular cookies though you will want to wait to make until the week leading up to Christmas. They are Advent cookies and you will learn more about that below.

Why Are Cookies Hard After Baking?

This is often because people cook them for too long. Many people believe the cookie has to look completely finished in the oven before it’s ready to come out. However, cookies keep cooking for a bit after they’ve been pulled from the oven. They also harden up a bit once they start to cool down. The best time to remove a cookie from the oven is when the edges are crispy or golden brown, but the middle still looks a little soft.

What Causes Cookies to Rising?

Baking soda and baking powder are usually the cause of cookies rising. If you want a flatter, not as a fluffy cookie, reduce these two ingredients and you’ll see a change. Outside of these two ingredients, the water evaporating during the cooking process is also the cause of some of the rising. As the steam pushes through the hot dough, it causes the cookie to fluff out. You can adjust recipes based on the way you like your cookies, fluffy or flat.

Starlight cookies are a wonderful way to share Christ with your family during the Advent season. Typically, you will use the Starlight Cookies the week leading up to Christmas. That’s because each ingredient is handpicked to resemble something meaningful leading up to Jesus’ birth. Tips for Making Starlight Advent Christmas Cookies

  • When creaming the butter, it’s usually easier to use a mixer. It will save a lot of time and effort. Plus, the butter is creamed more thoroughly than doing it by hand.
  • If desired, these cookies can be stored in the freezer. I suggest an airtight container with the cookies placed between layers of wax paper. For normal storage, store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Be sure to follow the directions carefully when making them as a jarred gift.
