How to make Refreshing Chia & Basil Lemonade

Start by adding 800ml or about 27 ounces of water into a pitcher. Then add the Chia seed and the stevia to the water.

Now stir the chia seeds into the water and let them sit for about 10 -20 minutes or until the seeds grow double in size.

You will need to stir occasionally. This is a very important step. Stirring keeps the Chia seeds from sticking together.

Then with the help of a citrus juicer, you will need to squeeze 3 lemons. Then add the lemon juice into the container with the chia seeds and water mix. Next stir to combine.

After that take around 10 to 15 leaves of basil and add them into a milliliter or a tall container. Add in 200 ml of water or 1/2 an ounce and blend it all until very smooth.

Then pass through a strainer into your previous mix of lemon juice, water, & chia seeds. This is another very important step because the strainer will keep the basil leaves out of lemonade.

Now stir to combine. Pro tip: If you need to, you can use an Immersion blender to stir well.

How to store basil lemonade

Not that it matters because this lemonade won’t last long, but it is advisable to consume the basil lemonade in a short time. However, if you like, you can store it in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

Tips for making Basil Lemonade

Lemonade is a great classic and the addition of basil will make it particularly fresh and pleasant. You can give a little extra by adding sparkling water or soda in the proportions you prefer. In this case, however, you will want to add water at the last moment in order not to lose the gaseous effect.

Can you freeze lemonade for later?

You bet! Freezing this drink is so much fun! It’s a simple recipe to freeze and unthaw when you’re ready to enjoy. Just make certain that you stir it so that it’s all mixed up.

Another fun idea for this recipe is to pour it into ice cube trays and freeze it that way. It’s an easy way to have lemonade ice cubes that you can then add to any drink! This adds a fun sweet flavor without being overpowering.

Why is my basil not stirring up well?

More than likely, you just didn’t blend it up enough. You can easily stir this for a few extra seconds and not have any issues. If you notice “chunks” or bits of basil, just stir it up longer the next time.

Will this lemonade separate as it sits?

It might. If it does, just stir it each time before you drink it. It’s a simple thing to correct with just a stir of the mixture.

What are other fun garnishments for this drink?

Sliced lemons are what I prefer, but you can easily use sliced limes or even line the rim with sugar as well. The kids really like that part but I tend to shy away from it because I try to eat lower amounts of sugar due to weight loss surgery.

You can also add a fun and unique straw for the kids to add a fun, different, and festive twist. I also have Stevia or pyure packets in a bowl on the table for people who want to make their drink sweeter.
