Air Fryer or Crisp Lid Keto Shepherd’s Pie

As if I need yet another reason to use my Instant Pot more than I already do, the addition of the CrispLid is yet again a game-changer. From the moment you create this Air Fryer or CrispLid Keto Shepherd’s Pie, you’re going to arrive at the same three realizations I did: (1) understand how game-changing the CrispLid is, (2) realize that living the low-carb lifestyle is incredibly easy, and (3) the low-carb lifestyle can be mouth-watering tasty!

The CrispLid is amazingly versatile. You can use it to fry, crisp, or even broil. And with the see-through lid, you can easily keep a close eye on the foods that you’re frying, crisping or broiling to ensure your food items are completely done and not overdone.

What size pressure cooker does the Crisp Lid fit?

The lid design is quite unique and fits both the 6-quart and the 8-quart pressure cooker. Talk about genius, right?! You only need one CrispLid to fit your multiple pressure cookers or Instant Pots. One CrispLid saves space in your cabinets and saves money in your bank account as opposed to purchasing a new pressure cooker to fit your lid or purchasing different sized lids to fit your pressure cookers. Genius!

Is the Crisp Lid hard to clean?

As with all of the appliances and attachments that are made by Instant Pot, everything is super simple to clean and wipe down. Don’t waste your time cleaning and cleaning when you don’t have to!

Now that you know a little bit about the must-have attachment that you’re going to fall in love with, let’s dive a bit deeper into what a shepherd’s pie is all about.

Does a shepherd’s pie have pastry?

Typically, yes. There is usually some sort of crust that the pie sits in and it might even have a “pie” crust covering the entire top. But since this recipe is keto-friendly, there isn’t going to be any type of bread or crust found in this recipe.

And honestly, it’s an ingredient that you really don’t need. While many people find comfort in eating it with a crust, I can assure you that it’s really not necessary.

What goes with Shepherd’s Pie?

Shepherd’s Pie is a full meal in its entirety. But if you want to add in some other veggies or a simple side salad, there’s nothing standing in your way other than air and opportunity. Plus, if you want to swap out the meat, you can. I’ve also made Shepherd’s Pie using lamb meat and my husband has made it using venison. You always have options with this versatile meal.

What country does Shepherd’s Pie come from?

While I’m certain that Americans would like to claim this one, we can’t. It’s actually a dish that comes from the United Kingdom. In their country, traditional shepherd’s pie is made using lamb. Since there is typically a crust that keeps in the ingredients, this dish is referred to as a “shepherd” since they are what keep the sheep in place as well.

How do you reheat shepherd’s pie in the oven?

If you happen to have leftovers, you’re going to want to make certain that you reheat it to where it’s a good temperature to consume. Putting it in the oven at a lower heat for a longer period of time will allow it to heat slowly without drying it out or burning it. A lower temperature of 180 degrees or so for about 40 minutes should be a long enough time to have the entire pie hot and safe to eat. To be on the safe side, always check the internal temperature after reheating. It should be 160 degrees or hotter to ensure the meat is safe for consumption.

You can reheat this in the microwave as well but it will zap it fast and might cause you to overheat the dish that you’ve been trying so hard to keep light and moist.

Since this Shepherd’s Pie is soy-free, low carb, and keto-friendly, you can rest easy knowing that it’s a great dish for a wide variety of eaters. With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, this is certain to be a good dish if entertaining a larger party of family and friends.

Allow this dish to cool at room temperature for a few minutes before diving in and taking a bit. It will be hot.

Some say I have weird taste buds, but I always like to add a bit more Worcestershire Sauce to the top of my bowl of Shepherd’s Pie. It is an acquired taste, so if you decide to try that, I suggest to use it sparingly. There really is a ton of flavor to this delicious dish so I can promise you that adding in a bunch of extra ingredients isn’t really necessary at all.

Not only is this a super simple recipe to make, but it’s also one that allows for easy cleanup. All you need is one appliance!

I don’t know about you but I think that dinner always tastes that much better when I know that I don’t have a ton to clean up in the end!
