Delicious pork chops smothered in gravy? I’m literally drooling just thinking about it. This recipe screams “southern comfort” and reminds me of my childhood in the hills of West Virginia. There’s nothing in the world that a plateful of pork and gravy can’t fix. Nothing.

I love being able to create recipes in the Instant Pot that fit my family’s needs and tastes. A stomach never goes empty and the plates are always cleaned. They love it so much they ask for it quite frequently.

If you scoured through my stand alone freezer of overflow and overstock, you’d come across several freezer meals of these pork chops ready and waiting to be eaten. When a recipe is this good, it’s an easy choice to plan ahead and make a few meals in advance.

How long does this Instant Pot Smothered Porkchop recipe have to cook in the Instant Pot once removed from the freezer?

In addition to writing the date and ingredient on your freezer bag or container label, it won’t hurt to write the cooking time on the label, also. This way everyone knows how long it needs to be cooked. For this recipe all you need are a minimum of 8 minutes.

Yes! Eight minutes! (However, keep in mind that more time will be added for releasing pressure. Also, if you’re cooking the gravy, that will add more time, unless you have more than one Instant Pot).

Gravy:

1-1/2 cup vegetable broth (we prefer low sodium or homemade)

1/4 cup sour cream

1 tbsp butter

Prep Directions:

1) Place the pork chops into a freezer safe container or bag.

2) Mix all the seasonings together in a small bowl and then pour it over the pork chops. Rub the seasoning into the pork chops so that they are completely covered.

3) Write your label and tape it to the container.

Freezer the pork chops for up to 1 month.

Label:

Smothered Pork Chops (1 tbsp butter, 1 1/2 cups broth, 1/4 cup sour cream – 8 minutes)

Natural Pressure Release Cooking Directions:

1) Defrost the pork chops enough to be able to break them apart. This can be done by putting them in the refrigerator overnight, using the defrost setting on your microwave, or running them under cold water in the container.

2) Turn the Instant Pot to sauté mode and melt the butter.

Place the pork chops in the bottom and sear the pork chops until crispy and brown on the outside. Approximately 2-3 minutes each side. I had to do this in two batches. You can skip the browning park if you want, but you’ll be missing flavor.

3) Remove the pork chops from the Instant Pot. Add the vegetable broth and deglaze the inner pot.

4) Place a trivet at the bottom of the inner pot and stack the pork chops on top. You do not want the pork chops resting in the liquid or the seasoning will wash off.

5) Close the lid and turn the pressure valve to sealing. Cook the pork chops on high pressure for 8 minutes, then allow the pressure to release naturally for at least 10 minutes.

6) Remove the pork chops from the Instant Pot and let them rest while you make the gravy.

7) To make the gravy, turn the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Whisk the sour cream into the broth in the Instant Pot.

Allow the liquid to simmer for 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally until the gravy reduces by half and thickens. If you are in a hurry, you can mix in a tbsp flour, brown rice flour, or other thickening agents to help the gravy thicken quicker if you do prefer.

8) Pour the gravy over the pork chops and serve.

See how simple freezer meals can be? If you’re having trouble getting the meals in the freezer because you have a husband and/or a teenaged son, no worries. I usually have to feed my tribe and then make these meals or wait until my hubby takes our boys for haircuts. LOL!

Why freezer meals? We’re busy parents. We don’t always have time to cook a delicious meal in between work, running errands, school, children’s activities, etc. Even if you’re stressed or tired after a long day, you can count on the ease of your Instant Pot freezer meals to make a delicious meal for the entire family.
