Delicious and easy to make Instant pot shepherd's pie comfort food
Years ago my husband tried to impress me with his kitchen culinary skills by trying his hand at Shepherd’s Pie. He spent about 8 hours in the kitchen reading recipes, chopping vegetables, peeling potatoes and browning meat. Basically, it took him about 8 hours in preparation alone!
 
 

The Old Way to Make Shepherd’s Pie

I’ve never seen someone chop vegetables as slow as he did. He was so meticulous in making sure the vegetables were perfectly chopped. He has to follow a recipe exactly as it was written without ANY leeway!
 
He finally pulled it out of the oven and looked with amazement at his final product. He was so proud of himself! He even garnished the dish with parsley! LOL! I was quite impressed with his creation as well, albeit starving by the time he got it all done.
 
But nonetheless, he gave me the night off from fixing dinner. It was also the heartfelt thought that mattered too, not the time it took to prepare. I do promise you though that THIS instant pot recipe for Shepherd’s Pie will not take anywhere near 8 hours of preparation!

Shepherd’s Pie Ingredients

1lb ground beef (or lamb)
16 oz bag frozen peas & carrots
1 1/2 cup water
3 beef bouillon cubes
1 tbsp flour
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp butter
 

Shepherd’s Pie Seasonings: 

1 tsp thyme
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Pinch salt & pepper
 

Shepherd’s Pie Instructions:

 
Heat instant pot on SAUTE setting. When hot, drizzle with Olive oil and add ground beef. Cook and drain.

Stir flour into cooked ground beef. Slowly pour in broth. Add seasonings. Mix.

Continue mixing until gravy it starts to bubble and thicken. Cancel saute setting.
 
Stir in peas and carrots.  Top with mashed potatoes and butter.

To heat through, choose one of the following-
1. MANUAL setting, Low Pressure 5 minutes.
2. KEEP WARM setting for 30 minutes.
