Instant Pot Applesauce

Last Updated on June 30, 2021

I love making this Instant Pot Applesauce. I remember helping my grandparents and my mom makes apple butter every year. We would can so many jars that we had enough to give away to the neighbors. My Dad has a large copper kettle for outside it is the best! We also made a lot of apple sauce that my Grandma, my mom, and I all prepared.

As Mom and Dad got older, they rarely pulled out that big copper kettle, so Mom began making applesauce and apple butter in the crockpot. It’s a recipe that I still use to this day just adapted since I don’t have that large copper kettle for canning!

I also make blueberry butter, strawberry butter, raspberry butter, blackberry butter, and if you name a fruit, I can probably make butter out of it & then can it!

Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes. There is something about homemade recipes to get the taste buds hopping and the memory that will last a lifetime!

I can still remember after all these years where I was when I first tasted homemade apple butter. Homemade recipes also require ingredients that you know exactly where they come from.

If you’re like me, you find yourself on Google looking up an ingredient that’s difficult to pronounce that you read on the back of a can or a box, which making our own food usually prevents.

Although it’s been a while since I dusted off the old crockpot to make apple butter or applesauce, for good reason I no longer have to use the crockpot.

I have the magic gadget called the Instant Pot now! Since fall is knocking at our door, it is apple season! I just had to share my Instant Pot Applesauce recipe with you! Give it a try in the instant pot. You won’t be sorry!

Do you need to peel apples to make applesauce?

It’s totally up to you! If you want to peel them, go for it. If you don’t, you don’t have to. I have done it both ways and it truly just depends on how much time I have.

Ingredients to make homemade applesauce

6-8 apples
1/2 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon (options and can use less if desired)

Servings: Makes about 3 cups apple sauce so if you want more- double the recipe.

Directions:

1) First dice the apples into cubes and throw away the core. I always get asked about peeling apples and while apples can be peeled if desired, but it is not necessary.

2) Next add the apples, water, and cinnamon to the Instant Pot. 1/2 cup water is plenty of water for your pressure cooker to come to pressure, If you add more water it will cause the apple sauce will be thin.

Now close the lid and turn the pressure valve to sealing. Cook on high pressure using the manual setting for 5 minutes. Let pressure release naturally.

3) Once the apples are cooked you can turn them into sauce two ways. You can either mash the apples and liquid with a potato masher or mix them in the blender. A potato masher works best for peeled apples and a chunkier apple sauce. This is the one that I have-

A blender or mixer will make it pureed. Let cool and serve. Store in the refrigerator.

How to make applesauce treats for on the go

Store apple sauce in popsicle storage bags for an easy-to-go option. We love making a large batch of applesauce and storing them in popsicle bags. We freeze half and put the rest in the refrigerator.

The kids love having a handy snack that they can just grab and go and I love knowing that it was made with delicious and tasty ingredients! Perfect for summer!

When the fridge stash is gone, I pull some from the freezer and let it defrost in the fridge. Here are the bags I suggest-
