Homeschool Field Trips in Arizona

Homeschool Field Trips in Arizona

I began this series called How to Make Field Trips to Everyday Places Educational  after I started prepping for Classical Conversations this year. Since we are studying states, I thought why not showcase field trips for the homeschooler in each state on my blog! I am already showcasing Military Discounts for each state on my other website. So here we are!

Today I present to you the great state of Arizona, known for heat and beautiful desert scenery and amazing sunsets. If you live in Arizona, you know that it is an educational paradise with so many great resources for your homeschool. Here are a few homeschool field trips in Arizona that will have your children learning beyond the text!

Arizona Challenge Space Center
Peoria

This museum, dedicated to the mission of space education and affiliated with the Smithsonian institution, features exhibits such as Space satellites, a ten-foot Shuttle Atlantis display, Space Shuttle Discovery STS-121 actual landing gear tire, and gravity game.

There are also various artifacts and autographs from past space missions. Field trips are available to coordinate with your homeschool groups, or just tour the museum for an incredible experience. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children (ages 4-12).

i.d.e.a Museum
Mesa

Classes and exhibit experiences make the i.d.e.a Museum more than just a normal Children’s Museum. Sign up for classes to support your STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum with courses like Messy Creations.

These classes are for your younger homeschoolers (PreK-K). The HUB is a place where kids can create and build and Artville emphasizes that the younger years of schooling should really be about creation and play!

The target ages for the museum activities are ages 0-12, but everyone will have fun and learn something, even mom and dad. Admission is $9 for ages one and up. Memberships are available.

Arizona State Capitol
Phoenix

Add to your social studies curriculum and state history unit by visiting the Arizona State Capitol and Museum. Explore the architecture and the incredible cultural history of Arizona. Consider checking out the educator resources online to support your visit.

Puzzles and worksheets are included along with which exhibits align with college and career readiness standards in Arizona. There are also extra online resources included to continue learning after the field trip. Admission is free, but donations of $1-2 are suggested.
