Homemade Ranch Dressing (Soy & Mayo Free!)

This homemade ranch dressing is about to take your salad to a whole other level! And the best part is you get to make it all yourself! There’s nothing like a homemade recipe that you can use over and again. I am about to share with you one that you will love too!

Raise your hand if you’re tired of using the same old store-bought dressing? While it might taste okay, there’s got to be something out there with more flavor, right? This is where this homemade ranch dressing recipe totally rocks. Not only is it super simple to create, but it’s packed full of great ingredients that will compliment your salad extremely well!

Say goodbye to the dread of eating another salad and welcome this delicious flavor bite after bite.

Another reason to make our own dressing is the dreaded soy allergy. My youngest was diagnosed with a soy allergy about a year ago, so that has drastically changed what we buy, make and serve. Soy is present in a lot of store-bought mayos.

Do you have to use greek yogurt for this recipe?

You technically don’t have to. You could follow a more traditional recipe for making ranch. However,  Greek yogurt is packed full of protein, probiotics, calcium and other vitamins and minerals that benefit your health. If you’re not a fan of Greek yogurt, you can also try to use any plain yogurt of your choosing. Make sure that if you use regular plain yogurt that it’s not vanilla flavored. I’m sure that would be a very interesting taste for sure!

If I don’t have any sour cream, can I just substitute in more greek yogurt?

You can! It may have a small effect on the flavor, but not a lot. Greek yogurt and sour cream can be easily swapped without many issues. If the dressing ends up being too thick after all is said and done, you can just add in a tad bit more buttermilk than the recipe calls for.

What are some ways that you can use this ranch dressing?

The most obvious way is to use it as a salad dressing on your salad. But if you’re coming off a salad kick and craving something different, there are other ways that you can use this dressing.

Use it as a dip for your vegetables, like cauliflower wings! I love to dip carrots and celery into it! It makes for a quick and easy snack for the kids as well!

Take a layer of this ranch and add it to your sandwich. It will take place of any other sandwich spread (i.e. mustard, mayo, etc.) that you might be craving and give it such a nice, unique flavor.

Can you freeze this homemade ranch dressing?

I wouldn’t recommend it. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should. Generally the dairy in salad dressings do not freeze well. Instead of freezing it, just try to think of alternative ways to use it. And if you run out of ideas, set aside some to share with your family and friends. When you have a recipe this good, you’ll definitely want to share!
