Once you try this Everything Bagel but the Salt Seasoning Blend, your cooking life will never be the same. This seasoning can replace so many other seasoning options in your kitchen!

Homemade Everything But the Bagel Seasoning

If you’ve visited Trader Joe’s, then you probably know all about their variety of seasonings, including Everything but the Bagel Seasonings. Let’s be honest, the seasonings taste really good and if I was a betting woman, I’d bet the farm that over half the kitchens in America have a few of their products.

However, since we’re an allergy-friendly family, I’m determined to make sure even the seasonings I create or use that are allergy-friendly so all my kids can enjoy the meals. I also have a husband who is a diabetic now and also needs low sodium. While I could buy Everything But the Salt, it is SO easy to just make my own.

Why Make Your Own Seasonings?

There’s been more than one occasion that I wished I had my own seasoning blend for different varieties of food. I am not against buying seasoning at the store. In fact, I do all the time. However, with soy allergies and a diabetic in the house, it does get tricky. Ever since we’ve changed our eating habits, I’ve noticed a difference in how we all feel and act. I also really don’t like to depend on store-bought products.

I’m always amazed that many people don’t connect the dots with the ingredients found in many of the items found in stores and their pantry. Listen, I’m I’m not being judgmental because I was that person not long ago.

Do me a favor. The next time you’re at the store, turn the item over and read the list of ingredients first. Why you ask?

First, you need to be aware of what ingredients you’re potentially putting in your and your family’s body. Secondly, you just might find that you have the ability to make it homemade with ease.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought something from the store only to get home and realize that I could have just made it myself and saved a bunch of money. Totally frustrating, right?

This Homemade Everything but the Bagel Seasoning is Soy free, gluten-free, and Vegetarian. It is also delicious! I’ve made my own Homemade Taco Seasoning in the past. Another favorite in my kitchen is my Homemade Ranch Dressing. Making your own spices and dressings is easy peasy (once you get the hang of it).

Homemade Bagel Seasoning

When I was a little girl, I would watch my mom season everything so perfectly. I want that for my kids. I don’t just want them to eat a meal and walk away from the table feeling full. I want them to discover their palate. I want them to experience how a seasoning or dressing or spread can make something spicy or sweet. I want them to find the subtle tastes in a dish that bring all the ingredients together. They need to experience good food so they aren’t afraid to branch out and try new things. This seasoning is hands down the best thing to have on hand in your kitchen.

If you aren’t sure which recipes to include this homemade seasoning, I have some ideas. You can use it in my amazing famous cheese ball. You can also use it as a topping on your homemade bagels. I’m telling you, you’re missing out if you haven’t given this a try yet.

What is the Purpose of Spices?

Spice can be anything. It’s usually something like a seed, root, or plant.

Spices are also used for preserving food. However, most people use spice to bring out the best flavor in their food! Cuisines from all around the world taste different because of the spices used.

Why Do Spices Taste Good?

The majority of people enjoy flavor on their food. They rely on spices to help bring their food to life. In my opinion, food would be bland if we couldn’t add our own touch to it. In essence, seasoning enhances the taste of food.

Think about it. Who enjoys a bland piece of baked chicken? Okay, maybe a few of us, but the majority enjoy adding a little bit of spice to elevate the taste. In fact, many of us add a seasoning found in every kitchen in the world (a safe assumption) – pepper.

What’s in Homemade Everything but the Bagel Seasoning?

I use white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic flakes, and dried onion flakes. I’m a busy woman and I like to keep things simple.

It’s possible you already have many of these seasonings hidden on your spice rack. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that it’s much easier on time and my wallet to make things at home than it is to purchase. It’s also beneficial to you and your family to know exactly what is in the items you’re using.

This is actually one of the best parts. This homemade seasoning blend is so simple that you hardly need anything at all. How Long Will it Take to Make?

You can actually make this seasoning faster than you can go to the store to purchase seasoning. As long as you have everything on hand, you can make this seasoning in under 5 minutes.

PRO TIP: If you really want to add more flavor and make it more homemade, you can even dehydrate your own onion flakes and garlic flakes.

How do you make your own dehydrated onion flakes?

Making your own dehydrated onion flakes is actually really easy to do. If you have a food dehydrator, you’re way ahead of the game. Simply chop up your fresh onion into smaller pieces and add them to your food dehydrator. You’re going to want to let the onion dehydrate for several hours until it has all the moisture removed.

Once it’s completely dried out, break them into even smaller pieces, making small dehydrated onion flakes.

The same process can be used to create your own dehydrated garlic flakes as well.

The most important thing is to make certain that you remove all the moisture from the garlic and the onion completely. If not, they won’t retain their crispness and will turn soggy and spoil quickly.

How Do I Store This or Any Other Seasoning?

Store it just like any store-bought seasoning. You would need to invest in small containers that seal very well. Make sure the seasonings are in a cool and dry area for storage.

I hope you find this seasoning as enjoyable and tasty as I have. It’s easy to make and delicious to use. Whether you’re using it for bagels or for cheeseballs, it’ll do the trick. Your kids will love your seasoning and request it time and again.

I can’t wait to see what you think about this simple seasoning recipe. I love knowing that I’ve made this 100% on my own and it’s versatile enough to add to a wide variety of dishes. The next time that you’re racking your brain for a great seasoning substitute, why not give this homemade seasoning a try?
