Air Fryer Steak Fajitas

Just hearing the words steak and fajitas rushes in memories of a favorite Mexican restaurant. But, have you tried steak fajitas form the Air Fryer? Tender strips of steak, onions, peppers, and a homemade fajita seasoning. This Air Fryer recipe is the easiest recipe to make on a busy weeknight. Air Fryer Steak Fajitas are naturally gluten-free, soy-free and paleo friendly when served on lettuce cups.

This recipe includes thin slices of steak cooked to perfection and seasoned with a homemade fajita inspired seasoning. Toss in some bell pepper strips and thinly sliced onions and cook until they are perfectly tender. All you have to do next is toss the ingredients on a white corn tortilla or lettuce wrap and top with your favorite condiments. Steak fajitas couldn’t get any easier than with this Air Fryer recipe.

Try my Instant Pot Chicken Fajita Soup recipe as well. This is an excellent recipe to warm you up on a chilly fall or winter day.

Gluten-Free Air Fryer Steak Fajitas

We are working really hard at making all of our meals fit the dietary needs of our youngest son. He has had to make some adjustments and I wanted to try and create the same recipes we have used over the years. I’d rather work with his dietary needs rather than make him feel deprived of his favorite meals. Fajitas are always a winning dish in our home and I love how the Air Fryer cooks the steak and veggies.

What Is The Best Steak for Fajitas

As you’re walking down the meat section of the store, you’ll see the arrangement of steak your store has to offer. You might be left scratching your head at what cut is best. The first thing you need to know, if you don’t already, are the different cuts of meats. Skirt steak is one of the original types of cuts that is used for fajita meat.

Skirt steak can be tough and you might need to tenderize it before you cook it. However, sirloin, flank, or hanger steak are what I recommend for using for fajitas. Make sure the meat is thinly sliced so it has time to cook through. Some grocery stores pre-cut the steak, and if that is the case, that will save you prep time.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Steak Fajitas

  • One thing I want to point out is to cook in stages. You want to have even layers of steak, onions, and peppers in your Air Fryer basket. If you just pile the food in, you will end up with a soggy/steamed texture in vegetables and possibly under-cook and over-cooked steak in areas. A nice thin layer is key to get that air fried taste and texture. I can cook more in my 8.5 qt Paula Dean Air Fryer than the one I usually use for recipes since it is smaller.

  • Cut your vegetables in equal sizes. This will help with a more even cooking so you have the same texture and consistency across your dish. If you have unequally sized pieces, sometimes you can overcook and undercook your ingredients very easily. Try to keep your cutting uniform.

  • Don’t over look the lime juice to squeeze on top. Many people assume the lime juice is just for looks, but it will add so much flavor. I tried it years ago over a fiesta chicken and boy did it add such vibrancy to the dish! When I cook a Mexican inspired dish,  I always drizzle fresh lime juice over the top!

If you are on the hunt for an easy, but totally satisfying recipe, this is a must try! And if you want to step out of the box, you can try eating your fajitas in different ways. From serving over rice, quinoa, or even cauliflower rice, or even skip the tortillas and go for lettuce wraps for a paleo friendly take, you can’t go wrong.

There is no wrong way to eat these steak fajitas. I know you and your family will enjoy them. The Air Fryer gives this recipe a fun spin and incredible texture.

  • 2 teaspoon of Garlic Powder

  • 1 teaspoon of Mexican Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • 2 tablespoon of Salt
  • To serve:
  • White Corn Tortilla
  • Jalapeno slices
  • Avocado chunks
  • Sour Cream
  • Lime Wedges

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt. Mix it well.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the julienned peppers, sliced onion and the beef strips.
  3. Dump the prepared spice blend and the oil. Give everything a good ix, making sure the beef and the peppers are well coated in oil and the spice blend.
  4. Divide the mix into two batches.
  5. Spread one batch of the beef and veggies in a well-greased air fryer basket.
  6. Air fry at 390 F for 10 minutes.
  7. Repeat with the other batch.
  8. Serve hot in a warmed white or yellow corn tortilla and your favorite add-ins and a squeeze of lime juice.

Notes

Make sure you do it in batches and have an even layer while air frying. If you dump the entire stuff, the peppers would ‘steam’ instead of ‘air frying’ and you will end up with soggy peppers and undercooked meat.
