Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

Throughout my husband’s military career, we enjoyed traveling all over the world. Twice he was stationed in South Korea and, well, the food there is simply amazing! I still crave the food and have asked my husband on more than one occasion to return for a culinary visit!  🙂

Now that we are retired, a trip to South Korea is a little more difficult to plan without the Army telling my husband we have to go. Instead of drooling on myself as I continue to crave the Korean dishes, I decided it was best to come up with a recipe I could serve right here in America!

I still can’t decide which kitchen gadget is my favorite – the Instant Pot or the Air Fryer. So I will just keep sharing awesome recipes from both! This time around you get the Air Fryer. Now, if you don’t own an Air Fryer, this is the one I have and recommend:

Korean BBQ Satay

Serves: 4

Ingredients

Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

  • 1 lb. of Boneless Skinless Chicken Tenders
  • ¼ cup of Dark Soy Sauce
  • ¼ cup of Honey
  • 2 tablespoons of Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 tablespoons of Gochujang (Korean Red Chili Pepper Paste)
  • 2 fat cloves of Garlic, grated
  • 1 tiny knob (about 1 inch) of Ginger
  • 2 Scallions, finely chopped
  • Metal or wooden skewers- The ones featured here are similar to mine.
  • Sesame seeds and green parts of a scallion to garnish

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, gochujang, grated ginger and garlic, finely chopped scallions. Mix well. Taste and add salt if needed.                                                                                                                                                  Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

Add the chicken tenders and mix well. Marinate anywhere from 6 to 24 hours.

If using wooden skewers soak them in water for 2 hours

Skewer each chicken tender into metal or soaked wooden skewers.                                                                                                                                                                           Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

Lightly grease the air fryer basket.

Add the skewers to the basket and air fry it at 390F for 8 minutes.                                                                                                                                                                              Air Fryer Korean BBQ Satay

Meanwhile, cook the marinade for 10 minutes over medium heat until it reduces to a thick sauce. Strain the sauce through a mesh strainer to remove the ginger, garlic and onion pieces.

Brush the sauce over the cooked satay and sprinkle sesame seeds and the green parts of a scallion.

Use the rest as a dipping sauce for the satay.

Serve the Korean BBQ Satay with picked carrots, jasmine rice and garden salad.

Notes

  1. Gochujang is a fermented red chili paste. It gives a smoky heat to the BBQ sauce. If you are unable to find it, use any other chili paste or even Sriracha sauce. If intolerant to heat, leave it out altogether.
